I am a radio, film, TV and stage actress. My most recent TV role was that of Mary in the CBBC sitcom, Millie Inbetween. Sketch and character comedy appearances include Lorraine Kelly in the BBC Radio Scotland spoof documentary, PeopleWatch; Louise in BBC2 Sketch Comedy show, Velvet Soup.

I also played a range of different characters – Grainne O’Grady, Mammy, Katie, Donatella Pringle, Eva Vaskova, Mistress MacKenzie – in my BBC Radio Scotland character comedy mini-series, The Shark’s Mouth – and the offshoot of that, my BBC Radio Scotland sitcom, Mistress MacKenzie and Friends, where I wrote and played all the female characters – Mistress Mackenzie, Katie, Madeleine Morningstar, American Doctor, Suzie and Lady B. Both shows were produced by Gus Beattie for The Comedy Unit.

I also appeared in an episode of Taggart as a country and western dancer. I did not at any point end up in a body bag – which was nice.

Film roles include Ellen in the Hollywood feature film, The Best Man; Scarlet Woman in the Hollywood feature film, Joy Division. And a wide variety of shorts including The Hostess in The Hostess (David Lane for Scottish Screen)The Other Woman in The Book Keeper (Mandy Sykes for Scottish Screen); The Teacher in Jason (Mandy Sykes for Scottish Screen) and The Lover in Dream Sequence (Scottish Screen shown at The Filmhouse) Mum in Ladybird (Gordon Napier for Scottish Screen).

Theatre roles included Gertrude in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Anna in Stars in the Morning Sky, Ranyevskaia in The Cherry Orchard, The Emcee in Fear and Misery of the Third Reich, Geilie Duncan in The Devil’s Craft and Kate & Mrs Tovey in Peter Pan Man. I also recently appeared in a the UK wide smash-hit musical-drama, Sinatra – The Final Curtain where I played Sinatra’s last wife, Barbara.

Here is my lovely film showreel, carefully put together by Roddy Simpson.

I’m also a voice artist, an impressionist and do a wide range of character voices

“I love Mistress MacKenzie; she is my broadcasting hero!”
Janice Forsyth (BBC Radio Scotland Culture Studio)

“Murphy’s amateur radio ham (Mistress MacKenzie) from a remote corner of Scotland is an oddball delight!”
British Comedy Guide

“A great character actress whose comic creations go beyond the one dimensional sketches. They live, and make you laugh and cry.”
The Scotsman

“Quite an actress and no mean mimic… she has stage-presence, confidence and a whole raft of funny material in her locker.”

“A talent for impersonations which is quite outstanding”
Evening News

“Close your eyes and Lorraine Kelly is in the room.”
The Skinny

“The highlight of the evening was Keara Murphy, a genius veering between breathy 40s American actress and bored upper class housewife. Her pièce de résistance, however, involves a remake of the Hitchcock film, Dial M for Murder. Substituting Lorraine Kelly for her American namesake, Grace Kelly. Murphy creates a sidesplitting murder scene featuring a very evil Kirsty Wark and Emu as her accomplice in madness.
She’s Eddie Izzard with less make-up and more Glasgow
and what more could we desire?”

I was also a regular cast member on the notorious  Lach’s Antihoot Radio Show where I played a wide range of characters each week.  Incarnations have included a radical feminist, an old lady with Tourette’s, a little girl guising at Hallowe’en and a woman giving birth using only a birthing clown for pain relief.
